First things first…

Considering most of the equipment I brought from Minnesota were either dropped on the ground or in a storage unit, we were in dire need of some storage. We talked about getting a shed. First thinking maybe something quick and cheap that we could quickly get up and store things on site. Then thinking it wouldn’t last very long and I always enjoy creating or building… Plus, this would be good practice - and a great opportunity to learn if I just designed and built it myself. So, off to the drawing board!

After designing in Fusion360, I came up with the rough design as shown above. As much as I wanted to create every detail down to the individual part… I knew projects like these don’t always go the way I envision. Keeping an open mind, and looking to learn along the way, we decided to move forward with the rough design and purchase most of the items that would be needed (plus maybe a few extra fun toys - err tools that we could use during the building of the geodesic home).

There is is! The shed in its’ deconstructed form… for the most part. Whatever parts we didn’t use, I knew I would be back at the store to return and buy more as things changed and became more well defined.

And here is the progress over many weeks! I would occasionally get rained out and have to wait a while… but at least it left plenty of time to take pictures of each stage. Working full time it became very difficult to make steady progress other than during weekends: but the silver lining being that there was plenty of time to research and make sure things were done correctly (mostly). The few minor details that aren’t, well, that can be fixed later, or is just part of the process of learning.
